Events and Announcements

Monthly Stamp

-We have been paying our monthly stamp out of the vacation fund since July, 2003.  Please be current with your stamps to make this a smooth transition.  As long as a member works at least 33 hours per month in our jurisdiction, the stamp will be paid out of their vacation fund.  Those members who work less than 33 hours per month in our jurisdiction, and retired members, will still have to pay by check. Effective January 1, 2012 the monthly stamp will go to $30.00 for working members and $25.00 for out of work members and retirees up to age 65.

This will take you to the New York Life site. Click on "Establish User ID and PIN/Password". Then simply follow the prompts. I did it and it took less than 5 minutes.

Fire Sprinkler Safety Act Signed Into Law.

-2005 Wisconsin Act 78 directs Wisconsin's private college residence halls, fraternities and sororities to maintain the same level of fire safety standards already in place at the state's public residence halls and dormitories.  The new law also mirrors public university standards through requirements adding sprinklers to residence halls taller than 60 feet, and installation of sprinklers in newly-constructed residence halls, sororities and fraternities.  Pictured above are members of the Wisconsin Fire Sprinkler Coalition with Governor Jim Doyle after Assembly Bill (AB) 544 was signed into law on 12/22/2005 at a public ceremony at the State Capitol.

Side By Side Burn Demonstration

-This is a very dramatic demonstration.  Just look at the after photos, they say it all.  We perform this demonstration Annually at the "Falls Safety Fair" in Menomonee Falls, WI. Contact the Local 183 office if you wish to host this event at your local safety fair in South East Wisconsin.

The room on the right has sprinklers, the room on the left does not.
:00  Before.
:30  Sprinkler Activates.
1:00  Couch catches fire on left.
1:20  Thick black smoke on left, fire is out on right.
1:40  Fire is really spreading now.
2:00  If you're not out now, it may be too late.
2:30  Flashover occurs, no life exists.
3:00  Totally engulfed.
3:20  Fire fighters knock down the flames.
3:40  The fire is out.
After, WITHOUT sprinklers, complete devastation, lost everything.
After, WITH sprinklers, lost a couch.
